Image
School of Law organized a guest lecture on 20 th of September 2019 on Feminist Jurisprudence and contemporary developments in the area of women and Law.  Ms. Shiva Priyamvada from the University of Delhi was the guest speaker for the event. She started with the concept of the basic feminist idea that there is no difference between men and women when it comes to their fundamental worth. The nature and value of a person is independent of their gender. The essential idea of feminism is the equality of woman with man. Feminism rests mainly on the belief that women are unjustly treated in many aspects of life. Our contemporary society is patriarchal, in the sense that it has been shaped by, and continues to be dominated by, white men. As a result of this patriarchal structure, women do not have as much power as men and are not treated in the same way as men, do not enjoy the same degree of control over their lives as men, and in general are referred to a subordinate sta

Guest Lecture on Investigation and Prosecution of Crimes in India

Image
On 18th September, 2019, School of Law conducted a guest lecture on the theme “Investigation and Prosecution of Crimes in India”. The Ex DGP of Bihar, Dr. D.N. Gautam was the keynote speaker for the event. His general approach to elaborate the theme made the concept easy for the first year undergraduate student to comprehend.   He discussed the adversarial model of justice followed in India in his lecture and pointed out that fair trial is the goal and the prosecutors need to prove the case beyond reasonable doubts. Failure of the prosecutors to prove cases beyond reasonable doubt leads to the benefit of doubt to the accused, which leads to acquittals. The role of prosecutors in India is very significant since more acquittals can encourage criminal activities in the future and may lead to a rise in the crime rate. After this great lecture and interactive session, Dr. Ramesh Kumar, Head of Department, School of Law Delhi- NCR campus presented a gift to Dr. D.N. Gautam
