The
session started with discussing the mental health issues in childhood
and adolescence. The discussion then focussed upon how these issues can
be worked on through the involvement of the family and other major
community members. The resource person discussed the importance of Multi
dimensional family therapy and the intensive home child and adolescent
psychiatric services to create a more effective therapeutic service. He
also explained the relevance of FIT circle in indentifying the risk
factors for client issues. The significance of holistic approach was
discussed as it is not only the client who is affected but also the
family and there are numerous factors affecting the psychopathology.
Certain risk and protective factors in adolescent mental health was
explained and how they can be targeted in a therapeutic intervention was
also highlighted. The participants were given an exercise wherein they
were asked to think of a case from multiple factors affecting its
perspective and use the fit model. The challenges in the Indian context
related to the mental health services for children and adolescents were
also discussed. Overall it was a great learning experience for the
participants and helped in gaining insight into various domains related
to mental health.
